At Washer-wise, we admit that this is not our main area of expertise, that said we do have knowledge and experience so when it comes to “traditional” i.e. not frost free refrigeration, we carry various thermostats and can quite often effect a first call repair.
However where the item is a frost free appliance or the fault turns out to be compressor or refrigerant gas related, we DO NOT undertake this type of work. Generally a compressor change or re-gas on a standard fridge or fridge/freezer will approach and in some cases exceed the cost of a replacement unit and even with the generally more expensive frost free equipment it can easily exceed 50% of the replacement cost. Also the repair of frost free and larger American style side by sides is a very specific skill set area that we are not fully experienced in.
For these cost related reasons combined with the dedicated equipment and training required to be effective in this field, as a company we are happier to refer you to an independant reliable source of expertise in this field. As described on the electric cookers page we have many business connections that can help if this type of work is required. Make an enquiry, we may be able to help.
To get round the problems of the risk of wasted estimate fee costs for this type of unknown, we carefully utilize our knowledge of the field and have a detailed chat with the customer about the symptoms of the fault before arranging to call. If it seems likely to be the thermostat at fault we will happily call as normal, however if it seems more likely to be a compressor, refrigerant gas related problem or is frost free we will advise accordingly without needing to call out.
With regards replacement of refrigeration appliances, dimensions often become the overriding factor, so given these measurements and any other special requirements the customer might have we can easily source replacements of virtually any brand through our trade connections and will always quote inclusive of delivery, installation and safe disposal of the old unit in accordance with WEEE regulations.
Our opinion on refrigeration replacement is, go for traditional non frost free, if you can as they have, over the years been far more reliable, however it is becoming increasingly hard to find brands that are not converting to frost free only.
